The Vision

The league would work with and consult each school to insure
sound budgetary controls. The league would have a marketing
arm designed to help each school maximize exposure. The
league would sponsor concert tours and events that would
visit each school as fundraising opportunities. The
compliance for eligibility would be higher than most
conferences but the acceptance requirements would be
slightly lower. Meaning there would be more athletes given
the opportunity to get in school but would only be eligible
to play once certain fundamental courses were passed, with
higher guidelines than most current conferences. More prop
48s but they would get in school and not have to go to a
prep school. National Greek Organizations and Minority
Organizations would be asked to assist with Stadium signage
and suites. As well as corporations. Conference would have a
special need fund for athletes to appeal to in special
financial situations. The conference would have a large
reserve account to insure the financial viability of member
schools.
New stadiums and facilities would be built or old ones
renovated under the guidance of the league to get seating to
5,000 more than NCAA D-IA minimum. The league would work
with each school to raise the appropriate funding and
oversee the funding. Jr, Sr, and graduate students at each
school would be used to design the facilities. Students
would be used in intern programs on each campus in
marketing, tutorial services, medical care, radio and
television coverage and etc through a league wide initiative
to give the students hands on training. BET and Radio One
would be interested in the opportunity to cover the games at the opportunity to cover the games.
One game on
Thursday, three games on Saturday for conference games.
Negotiate or establish relationship with SportsSouth to
carry remainder of games in each region. Production costs
can be lowered by using Junior, Senior and Graduate
Communication Students and to cover game coverage, allowing
the student to get actual work experience and credit hours
for participating.
Many people believe segregation was the reason many
African-American athletes began going to larger institutions
instead of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Well that did create the opportunity for several to attend.
But if you look at the number of draft picks, players on
professional rosters and the hey day of the HBCUs in sports.
The decline started much later than segregation. It really
showed when the emphasis of Division I-A and Division I-AA.
Again, this was an idea. A dream that could come true. Yes,
there are large obstacles. But anything worth having there
are large obstacles. I am sure there are things, I have not
hammered out or have knowledge about. But just imagine what
if. FAMU in the Sugar Bowl….one day. Tennessee State
University in the Orange Bowl….one day. Grambling in the
Rose Bowl….one day. With no vision the people with perish.
How many athletes will not even take recruiting visits to
the schools listed here that would go to play at the school
if it was Division I-A. Again, this is not exclusive but the
difficulty of any of these schools of getting accepted to a
current Division I-A conference in all sports, and keep
their historical rivalries would also be difficult. And what
was the last thing done by the schools listed below in
athletics that was “revolutionary and history making”. I do
not represent any school or organization but just “My
Dream”.
